Fans of Changi Airport would be familiar with the whirs and flips of the Terminal 2 split-flap display departure board. It is also known as a Solari board, after the company that makes them. The T2 departure board was featured in this BBC article. It is an interesting read on the history of Solari boards, and how they were gradually replaced by modern digital equivalents.

The old departure board was a mainstay of T2, but sadly it was becoming difficult to source parts for it, as wear and tear took its inevitable toll. With T2 being upgraded, it has been taken down. Who knows? When renovations are complete in 2024, perhaps a new airport icon will take its place, for newer generations to enjoy. :)
